The Role:
As a Senior Environment artist you will set the standard for high level artistry, attitude and capability within the field. You are thoroughly independent in your craft, able to take on any task with little guidance and deliver best-in-class assets.
You will be supported by both department Lead and Principal, you too offer support and mentorship to other artists. The right person will be able to act as interim project lead when needs requires or an in-the-trenches support for the trainee to mid-level artists.
We need a level artist who can bolster the ranks with ample experience in level art, be it terrain generation and large-scale landscape, high fidelity interiors or performant oriented level kits. The ideal person should also come with the cinematography and lighting skillsets required to bring these scenes to life.
The ideal candidate will be able to take a piece of environment concept art and actualise it in-engine. Someone who is interested in progressing to the principal role. Portfolio and personality are what we’re looking for.
Requirements:
A demonstrable portfolio showcasing a range of high-quality environment & level artwork across multiple project types.
Ability to create large scale landscapes from scratch in Unreal Engine & Unity.
Good understanding of terrain and foliage tools inside Unreal Engine 5.
Experience with terrain generation tooling such as Gaea or World Creator.
Solid grasp of the fundamentals of cinematography including composition, framing, colour & light.
Proficiency with industry standard tooling and workflows.
Experience with and understanding of PCG is a bonus.
Key Responsibilities
Creative
Adhere to studio art standards, best practises and quality benchmarks.
Take direction from internal art leadership on company projects and initiatives.
Take direction from clients on any external projects or initiatives.
Be able to actualise environment spaces from scratch with minimal supervision be they interior or exterior.
Set dress scenes with provided props and assets across a wide array of styles and eras, both exterior and interior.
Be able to carry out your work with a strong focus on visual storytelling.
Technical
Understand and work within the performance and optimisation constraints of the project.
Where necessary ensure environments support gameplay through clear visual signposting, traversal readability and close adherence to level design and navigation requirements.
If required, work to distil client briefs down to actionable tasks lists.
Work with prescribed source control workflows in perforce or similar.
Use your expertise and experience to advise improvements to workflows where appropriate.
Mentorship and Development
Conduct craft focused 1:1s where required to support artist technical growth.
Work with your line manager on areas of self-improvement within your current or advancing skillset.
